Last semester we had Garry Giottfriedson visit our class, wow what a great man! The entire time he was talking to us, I was amazed at his passion for teaching. Everything he talked to us about was very valuable as we set on this teacher journey. I loved how he placed so much importance on connection. He was big on connecting to the students which will connect you with the parents which connects you to the community. I am going to incorporate his idea of weekly connections with parents in my future classroom. I think keeping the parents in the loops with their children’s learning is so valuable. If a teacher has a connection with the parents, then we as teachers are most likely going to be getting a lot of help from the parents when it is needed. It was also very valuable to hear from him what he would look for in a teacher when he was a principal. He really looked for passion and accountability when hiring teachers for his schools. I think that as a teacher, passion and accountability are two of the most important traits to have. I will definitely be using Garry as a resource as I continue on this teaching journey, he is such a valuable resource!
